Vertical Board Formed Stamped, Micro-etch, Precast Bar, and Triple Trough Concrete Sink

2022 Decorative Concrete Council - First Place: Multiple Applications

The architect named this style “Tidewater Modern” and “blurred the lines between indoors and out.” The owners and architect wanted this Tidewater Farmhouse to reflect the history of the land and complement the natural site. Their unique concept resulted in a series of historic farm-like structures connected via contemporary glass-enclosed concrete sidewalks.

They recognized concrete as the optimal material to realize their vision. We were proud to develop an array of decorative concrete solutions for this extensive project.

Previously, on the guest house, the architect loved our 12” board-formed concrete overlay. He chose the same for the main house but wanted to extend the 4’ length of our stamps. Our solution was to flame and texture a reclaimed 2”x12”x12' board to create a custom plug for new stamps. We fabricated a series of rubber stamps with seamless ends, providing the ability to stamp any length. Vertically Stamped, Board-Form finish was used to cover the >1,200SF of foundation, all outside chimneys, and a showcase interior fireplace.

The interior sidewalk was a micro-etch finish that blended seamlessly with the outside pool deck and patio. Interior concrete exposure was a challenge as the slurry had to be contained to keep it from leaking into the basement. We precast custom copings for the hot tub and pool surrounds using the same concrete.

We also precast multiple architectural accents, most notably the counters in the “Dueling Kitchens” - mirror kitchens to promote family cooking competitions.

Finally, we precast an 88” long, triple farmhouse trough sink for the kids’ bathroom in the basement.

This project demonstrates a wide array of decorative concrete applications on one site in a fantastic, succinct, and environmentally conscious design. The architecture of the Tidewater Farmhouse showcases the diversity of our high-quality concrete techniques in applications of vertical, exposed, precast, and GFRC.
